What we recover
Cars of every kind, including all-wheel-drive, automatic and lowered vehicles that must not be dragged on their driven wheels. Vans and light commercials up to 3.5 tonnes, in short, long and extra-long wheelbase, plus Luton and box bodies. Motorbikes, using a proper front wheel chock and soft straps rather than improvised ratchet straps. Electric vehicles, which are always carried and never towed.
Then the awkward ones. Non-runners that will not roll, automatics locked in park with a flat battery, cars with a seized handbrake or a locked steering column, vehicles with no keys at all, and accident-damaged cars that need winching off a verge. Wheel skates and winch capacity are on the truck as standard, so none of that is an obstacle.
Why flatbed rather than towing
Almost nothing modern should be towed on its own wheels. All-wheel-drive systems can damage their transfer case and differentials when dragged with the engine off. Automatic gearboxes lose their oil pump the moment the engine stops. Electric vehicles generate current through their motors when the driven wheels turn, which can damage the inverter and voids most manufacturer warranties.
So the vehicle is carried, not pulled. It goes up onto a level deck on all four wheels, secured with rated straps over the tyres to anchor points, with nothing hooked to bodywork, subframes or suspension. Aluminium extension ramps flatten the approach angle for lowered cars and deep front splitters.
